How Happy Are You?

Somebody once said if you want to stay happy for a short time get drunk, then nobody contradicted. Again when somebody said if you want to stay happy for a long time also get drunk, then everybody contradicted. When somebody asked what do u do to stay happy forever? Then nobody could answer, because happiness is one such term which cannot be measured or defined. The dictionary says happiness is showing pleasure or feeling fortunate. But does being happy mean having all what one needs in life? Or having freedom to do something one wants to do? Or does it lie in helping people around you and making them happy?. Well...... none of the above question can give the essence of happiness, because happiness always lies in oneself. Happiness can be very well defined as a simple harmony between a man and his life. It always depends on the person. It depends on the quality of his thoughts, his actions, his nature, his character and his words. If he is happy with himself then he can be assured of making at least one person happy around him. Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and to others.

There have been various opinions and teachings to deliver the meaning of happiness. The Hindu dharma says happiness to a man is having a proper “grihasti” which means living with a loving wife and obedient children. According to Buddhist teachings and the eightfold path happiness is that which will lead it’s practitioners to “Nirvana” a state of everlasting peace. They also explain that happiness can be achieved by overcoming desire in all forms. Christianity says happiness is a never-ending relationship with god. They believe that it is due to god that one is able to be happy and content. Whereas, psychologists have a different say. They believe that happiness is positivity in everything. Taking into consideration all the above references we can definitely make an inference that happiness is a balance between a person and his life.

Aristotle, the great philosopher quoted that “action may not always bring happiness. But, there is no happiness without action.” Therefore, the grand essentials of happiness are: something to do; something to love; and something to hope for. As it has been said and believed that a person should always do his duty and leave it to god, similarly if a person pretends to be happy he can never be happy. Take life as it comes to you and do your best. One will definitely lead a happy life. Don’t search for the meaning of life. Just live!!!!!! Because there is only one way which can lead happiness in life i.e. to love and be loved.....................
