WHO AM I?????

This particular write-up was given to me by my friend Saloni as a part of the "make a difference" assignment in psychology class...this was taken from the magazine "Frozen Thoughts" written by "Megha Bajaj"...
A man arrogantly walks up to a saint, sitting by a river and says," oh! sage, i have heard a lot about you. It appears that you ahve helped several farmers find their true nature, and live a spiritually aligned life. I'm a learned teacher and almost know everything about spirituality. So, can you still help you?"
The sage smiles and asks," yes ,son. I think i can help you. Tell me who are you?
"I just told you-I'm a learned teacher!" replied the man impatiently.
The saint replies, "but that's your profession, who are you?"
The man taken aback replies," I am Ishwarchand".
"Alas! but that's your name, who are you?" repeats the saint.
Bewildered, the man hurriedly says,"I am a man!"
to this the saint replies,"Ah! but that's your gender. Who are you?"
The man completely confused makes a final attempt, "I am a human."
The saint shakes his head and says, "that's just your species, who are you?"
The man then falls at the saint's feet and weeps,"great sage, I no longer know who i am!"
"Good, that's the best place to begin your spiritual journey." Replies the saint with a smile.

As it has been rightly said that,"True knowledge is knowing "WHO I AM" and true joy being that "I".
When people start their quest for finding answers for the question "WHO I AM?" the first thought which come across is their "BODY". A little later into their journey they feel it is their"MIND" and some more steps down the lane it feel s like it is your "HEART" that determines the persone you are. But, in the end the truth lies in the "SOUL". A person is his soul

that was a good story but really you cannot take anything from it....look at it this way,the sage is glad when the man realises that he is not sure of who he is and says that it is the best way to being his spiritual journey.....and u have ended ur post saying soul is what defines a man,my question is what is exactly the soul??is it what you are essentially??doesnt that include the heart and mind??

also most people in their spiritual quest tend to lose their identity in the process,it was alright ages ago but today if a man in the similar situation agress to the fact that he doesnt know who he is anymore, there isnt much he can do,he might basically lose his confidence and search for soemthing which might not really help him in the long term.......

this is just my opinion,as always in the search for these "answerable questions"!!!

hmmm...i completely respect your opinion and i agree on few things you have expressed but not completely...it is true that human beings these days have changed...but, the change is external...internally it might or might not have affected them...they might still want to attain mental stability...even i would want to...but what is essential is that one has to realise his identity...and this is just a means to convey my message that everybody has a point of realisation in their life and it can happen any moment...
my interpretation of soul may be different from everybody else's...according to me soul is the interaction between our heart and mind...we tend to differentiate between all the three because we do not try to relate them...it might sound stupid but a simple chocolate can create so much magic wherein both our heart and mind are involved in its celebration...similarly there are things in life where both our heart and mind would agree on it and it when we realise our identity...

u say that everybody has a moment of realisation in their life...i totally agree with ur point but i do think that this realisation has gotta be something positive,in ur story it is as i percieve something negative,in the sense that he has realised that all that he thinks of himself doesnt count for much....
now u might want to prove the point that since he has realised that he will readily begin that journey towards his mental stability as u put it,so basically that point where he says i dont know what i am!! is not really the realisation and just a means to the end that is realisation of himself.....
i wonder what the sage wud have told him, that wud make a more interesting reading........

kruthi.. nice attempt.. but should have been a lil detailed, like what the man did after he's realised.. or on a practical basis, ya shud have shown given how does it give an impact upon a human's intentions and how spiritualism makes one's effort go immortal 'karma'...
